We made this childhood favorite with a grownup twist by adding ginger, hoisin and soy sauce to create a quick and delicious Asian inspired dish for any week night. Try it with ground turkey or ground chicken instead.
Mix the following ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
Add the oil and preheat the pan to 325°F/ 165°C (medium).
Cook the aromatics for 1 minute or until they begin to toast.
Add the pork to the aromatics and cook for 3 minutes while breaking it down into smaller pieces with a spatula. Cook the pork until no longer pink.
Add the sauce and lower the temperature to 245°F/ 120°C (low) and cook for 4 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced and created a sort of glaze that coats the pork meat.
Turn the heat off and fill the burger buns with some of the sloppy joe and top with shredded cabbage for a good crunch. This versatile filling can also be use in simple rice bowls.
