Asian Inspired Sloppy Joes

We made this childhood favorite with a grownup twist by adding ginger, hoisin and soy sauce to create a quick and delicious Asian inspired dish for any week night. Try it with ground turkey or ground chicken instead.

Make the Sauce

Mix the following ingredients in a bowl and set aside.

  • Crushed Tomatoes¼ cup
  • Hoisin Sauce¼ cup
  • Soy Sauce3 Tbsps.
  • Chili Flakes¼ tsp.

1. Add the Oil While Preheating the Pan

Add the oil and preheat the pan to 325°F/ 165°C (medium).

  • High Heat Oil(grapeseed, vegetable, canola)1 Tbsp.

2. Add and Cook the Garlic and Ginger

Cook the aromatics for 1 minute or until they begin to toast.

  • Garlic Clove(finely chopped)1
  • Ginger(finely chopped)1 tsp.

3. Add and Cook the Pork

Add the pork to the aromatics and cook for 3 minutes while breaking it down into smaller pieces with a spatula. Cook the pork until no longer pink.

  • Ground Pork½ lb.

4. Add the Sauce and Finish Cooking

Add the sauce and lower the temperature to 245°F/ 120°C (low) and cook for 4 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced and created a sort of glaze that coats the pork meat.

  • Reserved Sauceall

5. Remove and Serve

Turn the heat off and fill the burger buns with some of the sloppy joe and top with shredded cabbage for a good crunch. This versatile filling can also be use in simple rice bowls.
